Himalaya Airlines will resume direct flights on the Kathmandu-Shanghai-Kathmandu route.
Himalaya has announced to resume regular direct flight service from Tribhuvan International Airport to Pudong International Airport, Shanghai, starting Monday, September 28.
With the resumption of this service, Himalaya Airlines will become the only airline operating regular direct flights on the Kathmandu-Shanghai-Kathmandu route. This will also restore a strategically important air link between Nepal and Shanghai, one of China’s major global metropolises.
The Kathmandu-Shanghai-Kathmandu flight will offer passengers convenient, direct air travel between Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, and Shanghai, China’s largest city and a leading global financial centre.
The company says the Kathmandu-Shanghai-Kathmandu route will further strengthen Himalaya Airlines’ commitment to providing convenient, safe, and efficient travel services to passengers. It also says the route will make an important contribution to strengthening Nepal-China bilateral relations and people-to-people contact and exchange between the two countries.
The resumption of the service at the start of Nepal’s main tourism season will further enhance the route’s strategic importance. The company says the route is expected to bring a notable increase in the number of tourists coming to Nepal from China, contributing positively to the overall hospitality and tourism sector, and will also support Nepal’s economic recovery and growth goals.
Himalaya Airlines will initially operate two flights a week on this route. Kathmandu-Shanghai flights will depart every Monday and Friday, while return flights from Shanghai to Kathmandu will operate every Tuesday and Saturday. The airline has said it will increase the number of flights in the future depending on passenger demand and load factors.
Himalaya Airlines Vice Chairman Bijay Shrestha said regular flights are set to resume on the Kathmandu-Shanghai-Kathmandu route. He said Himalaya Airlines remains committed to strengthening trade, tourism, and people-to-people ties between Nepal and China.
He said, “We have always sought out new destinations in China and continued to operate regular flights. This resumption of the Kathmandu-Shanghai-Kathmandu flight supports our airline’s goal of strengthening citizen-to-citizen relations between the two nations and promoting tourism and trade.”
