Kathmandu, September 23
Nepal has won its first medal at the 20th Asian Games underway in Japan. Karateka Tenzing Sherpa won bronze in the men’s kumite over-84kg weight category.
Tenzing lost 5-0 to Iran’s Mahmoud Nemati in the semifinal held at Toyohashi Gymnasium on Wednesday. After losing the semifinal, he competed for the bronze medal.
In the bronze-medal bout, Tenzing defeated Laos’s Vathana Xayasane 9-1.
With this, Nepal has opened its medal account at the ongoing Asian Games.
