The Nepal Academy is set to launch a special series, ‘Katha Dabali’, aimed at documenting and digitally archiving old myths, stories and legends of cities for future generations.
The first edition, ‘Katha Dabali-1’, will feature stories and legends associated with Indra Jatra. The event will be held on September 24 at the Dabali of the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi.
The programme will begin at 2 pm on Thursday, with Nepal Bhasa Academy Chancellor and senior cultural expert Malla K. Sundar presenting the stories, according to the Nepal Academy.
The Academy said Sundar will narrate written stories about centuries-old tales, myths and legends associated with Indra Jatra, as well as the origins of Kathmandu and its cultural heritage.
Traditional dances will also be performed during the programme, titled ‘Indra Jatra: The Autumn Festival’. Deepak Sapkota, head of the Academy’s Poetry, Culture and Digitalisation Department, said artists will perform the valley’s famous Lakhe Pyakha (Lakhe dance) and Kumari dance.
Sapkota said the ‘Katha Dabali’ series, which aims to preserve and archive cultural stories, will be organised continuously in different cities and villages across Nepal.
