Chitwan, September 19
A wild male elephant named Ronaldo, which had been living around the elephant breeding centre of Chitwan National Park, was found dead on Saturday morning.
Ronaldo was found dead in the Kumal Tal area near Bishazari Tal in the park’s buffer zone, said Abinash Thapa Magar, information officer at Chitwan National Park.
Thapa Magar said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the elephant’s death.
Ronaldo had first been spotted in the national park around 24 years ago.
The elephant played an important role in breeding at the park’s elephant breeding centre, with female elephants at the centre becoming pregnant by Ronaldo.
According to the national park, Ronaldo was the father of 38 elephant calves.
