Dhangadhi, September 18
Police in Kailali have seized an Indian-registered mini truck carrying goods worth Rs 3.172 million that were brought into Nepal without paying customs duties.
According to police, the mini truck was intercepted at Chowkidanda in Godawari Municipality-3 on Thursday afternoon. It was carrying motorcycle tyres and tubes and grass-cutting machines worth Rs 2.625 million.
A joint team from the Area Police Office, Malakheti, and Armed Police Force Nepal No. 34 Gan, Dhangadhi, took the truck driver, 38-year-old Chandrakumar Verma of Lakhimpur Kheri, India, into custody along with the smuggled goods.
Police also seized additional smuggled goods worth around Rs 547,050 from various locations in the district.
The seized items included beverages, tobacco, bidis, gutkha, clothing, electrical goods and grocery items. Police said the goods were found abandoned.
The seized truck and goods, along with the driver, have been sent to the Kailali Customs Office, Trinagar, for necessary legal action.
