Kathmandu, September 13
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) will provide free burn treatment up to Rs 200,000 for targeted groups.
The service will be provided to poor, violence-affected, and unidentified/unclaimed patients on the recommendation of the metropolitan city’s health education committee. An agreement has been signed between Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Kirtipur Hospital (Public Health Concern Trust) to provide this free burn treatment service.
The metropolitan city has also contributed Rs 20 million to the hospital to cover equipment and instruments needed for treatment and to run the free service. Of this, Rs 10 million will go into a dedicated “burn treatment fund,” from which up to Rs 200,000 per patient will be covered for the targeted group. Any amount from the fund not used within this fiscal year will carry over and continue to be used for burn treatment in future years.
At the event, metropolitan city acting chief Sunita Dangol said the agreement was made so that no one is denied burn treatment for lack of money, adding that the fund was set up so families don’t have to leave a patient at the hospital and go scrambling for money after finally getting them there.
