Two Nepali films and two international films have opened in Nepal’s theatres since Friday. The Nepali films “Pension Patta” and “Behuli” have been released alongside Hollywood’s “Fall 2: Dead Point” and Bollywood’s “Hanuman Ansh.”
“Pension Patta,” directed by Maotse Gurung, is a socially themed film starring Dayahang Rai and Gaumaya Gurung in the lead roles. It portrays the struggle a wife faces trying to obtain her pension after the death of her Lahure (British/Indian Army veteran) husband.
The 128-minute film is said to be rooted in the customs and culture of the Gurung community. This is the second narrative feature from Mao Tse, who has already directed several Gurung-language films, following “Dayarani.”
“Behuli,” directed by Sashan Kandel “, Santosh,” has also been released since Friday. The film stars Paras Bam Thakuri and Divya Raimajhi in lead roles. This drama has a runtime of 175 minutes.
The Hollywood film “Fall 2: Dead Point” has also been released since Friday. The 98-minute English-language film is directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig, and stars Harriet Slater, Ersema Thomas, Tom Britney and Grace Caroline Currey.
The story follows Jax Hunter, who is grieving the death of her sister Shiloh. During this time, she grows close to Shiloh’s daring friend Luce, and the two set out to climb Thailand’s dangerous Mount Kwan.
During the climb, a landslide leaves them stranded on a narrow platform four thousand feet above the ground. As Jax fights to survive, she must confront her own fears. The film is classified as an adventure-thriller.
Similarly, the Bollywood film “Hanuman Ansh” has also opened since Friday. The 150-minute film is directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and stars Shobhinav Satya, Chandan Anand and Purnima Tiwari in lead roles. It has been given a PG rating.
The film’s story centres on the life journey of a grieving boy who sets out in search of God in hopes of meeting his deceased mother. As he searches for God, he comes to realise that serving humanity is life’s most important purpose.
That same boy, who undertakes a spiritual journey of serving people through love, food and silent blessings, later comes to be known as “Hanuman Ansh”, Neem Karoli Baba. The biographical film presents the story of his spiritual journey and service to humanity.
