Kathmandu, September 10
Germany has pledged EUR 8.05 million in assistance to Nepal to support communities affected by the recent Bhotekoshi floods and contribute to recovery and disaster-resilience efforts.
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kathmandu said in a statement that the assistance combines emergency humanitarian aid, development cooperation and support channelled through European and multilateral mechanisms.
As part of the emergency response, Germany is providing more than EUR 500,000 worth of relief supplies through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism at the request of the Government of Nepal. The supplies include kitchen sets, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, drinking-water equipment and camp beds.
Germany is also providing EUR 200,000 in direct humanitarian assistance to two civil society organisations. The projects will support pregnant women, new mothers and newborns, while also creating income opportunities for affected households, supporting infrastructure recovery and improving conditions in displacement camps.
In addition, Germany has mobilised EUR 7.35 million in development assistance through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Implemented by GIZ, the support will focus on health, energy and water supply while strengthening climate- and disaster-resilient infrastructure.
“Germany stands with the people of Nepal in this difficult time,” the embassy said, expressing solidarity with victims and their families.
