Himalaya TV secures NPL broadcast rights, NetTV gets OTT rights

Kathmandu, September 7

Himalaya Sports (Himalaya Television) has secured the official broadcast rights for the Nepal Premier League (NPL), while NetTV has won the tournament’s over-the-top (OTT) streaming rights.

Himalaya Sports secured the television broadcast rights with a bid of Rs 172.4 million, including taxes, when the Nepal Cricket Association opened the bids at its office on Monday. The company said its bid was more than five times the value of last year’s broadcast rights and nearly 2.5 times the minimum bid set for this year.

Meanwhile, NetTV secured the OTT rights after submitting the highest bid of Rs 180.4 million, excluding taxes. Digo Stream, the only other bidder, had offered Rs 170 million, excluding taxes. NetTV, which has WorldLink as an investor, and Digo Stream, backed by Dish Home, were the only two companies to submit bids for the OTT rights.

NetTV CEO Niran Rajbhandari confirmed that the company had submitted the highest bid. He said the Nepal Cricket Association had informed the company that it would provide formal confirmation by email after completing the required procedures.

The Cricket Association has authorised the OTT platform to charge subscribers up to Rs 400, including taxes, within Nepal, Rs 600 in Gulf countries and $10 in other countries.

Himalaya Sports said securing the broadcast rights was more than a commercial investment and reflected its long-term commitment to Nepali cricket. It pledged to provide quality and wider coverage of the NPL.

The company also said the rising value of the tournament demonstrates the potential for building a commercially sustainable sports competition and strengthening Nepal’s broader cricket ecosystem.
