Govt declares September 7 national day of mourning for flood victims

Kathmandu, September 3

The government has decided to observe a national day of mourning in honour of those who lost their lives in the Rasuwa floods.

Government spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel said the Cabinet meeting held Thursday afternoon made the decision.

According to him, the government will observe the day of mourning on the 13th day after the disaster, in accordance with the Hindu tradition of marking the 13th-day death anniversary rites for the deceased.

The government has decided to observe the national day of mourning on Monday, September 7. On the day, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at government offices across Nepal and at Nepali embassies and diplomatic missions abroad.
