Kathmandu, August 30
Excessive activity by private drones in Nepali territory near the Nepal-China border has affected rescue flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the country’s aviation regulatory body, has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) stating that drone activity poses a risk to flights.
The government had previously reported that unauthorised drone flights were disrupting helicopters involved in rescue and relief operations. With the same activity repeating today, flights in that area have been obstructed again.
The Authority issued the NOTAM instructing helicopter pilots to exercise special caution while carrying out rescue flights.
The Authority has asked pilots to exercise caution while flying within the area extending 10 kilometres south of the Kerung border.
