Engineering and technical professional organisations have urged the government to work with them in search, rescue and relief efforts in areas affected by the devastating floods.
Issuing a four-point appeal, the organisations called on the government to simplify the process of providing helicopter services to the private sector for rescue and relief operations.
They specifically urged the government to facilitate necessary permissions, coordination and administrative procedures so that private hydropower developers can use helicopters to reach remote disaster-affected areas and hydropower project sites.
“We request the government to make the necessary permissions, coordination and administrative procedures swift and easy so that private hydropower project developers can use helicopter services to conduct search and rescue operations and deliver essential relief to remote disaster-affected areas and hydropower project sites,” the appeal said.
The organisations have also offered technical support in preparing rescue plans and ensuring the participation of technical personnel in rescue flights.
The appeal was issued by organisations including the Nepal Engineers’ Association, Nepal Hydropower Association, Nepal Tunnelling Association, Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal, Society of Consulting Architectural and Engineering Firms Nepal, Nepal Micro Hydropower Development Association and BTI Tradesmen Association.
The organisations said they were ready to coordinate with the government and contribute technical expertise to ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
