Kathmandu, August 27
Drone pilots have been urged to come together to support intensified search and rescue operations in areas affected by the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
The Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN) has called on drone pilots to join a Drone Rapid Response Team (DRRT) to assist ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
The DRRT will coordinate directly with a team from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, according to RAN.
The team will use drones to conduct aerial surveys of damaged riverbank areas that cannot be reached on foot or by vehicle. It will also help identify stranded communities and locate missing people using aerial technology.
Drone operators will also assist authorities in assessing the condition of washed-away bridges, damaged roads and settlements at risk, RAN said.
The team will provide rescue and relief personnel with real-time aerial photographs and videos to help speed up response and resource mobilisation.
Interested drone pilots can join the DRRT by filling out the registration form provided by RAN.
