Kathmandu, August 30
India has provided additional assistance for search, rescue and relief operations in flood- and landslide-affected areas of Nepal.
Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar said that a fourth aircraft carrying 11 tonnes of relief supplies and a technical team had departed for Nepal.
In a social media post on Sunday morning, Jaishankar also reaffirmed India’s continued support and assistance for Nepal’s relief and rescue efforts.
According to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, a tunnel technical team equipped with search-and-rescue and disaster-management equipment arrived in Nepal aboard an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft.
A team of forensic experts carrying equipment required for DNA analysis has also arrived in Nepal.
The embassy said the latest shipment also includes relief supplies such as blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets and hygiene materials. This is the fourth batch of assistance India has sent to Nepal.
Bridge equipment also sent
With floods and landslides damaging roads and bridges, India has also sent infrastructure support to help restore transportation.
According to Jaishankar, 16 trucks carrying equipment for a 230-foot single-lane modular steel bridge have already departed for Nepal.
He added that equipment for seven more Bailey bridges, along with technical teams to install them, will also arrive in Nepal soon.
Nepal receives 68.5 tonnes of aid so far
India said it has so far airlifted a total of 68.5 tonnes of relief supplies to Kathmandu during the disaster.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, earlier shipments included essential medicines, portable generators, ready-to-eat food packets, water purification tablets and other technical equipment.
