Kathmandu, August 28
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged people living along the Bhotekoshi River and those involved in rescue and relief operations to remain on high alert after a fresh rise in the river’s water level raised concerns of another flood.
The authority said it had received information that water flow in the Bhotekoshi area, which was hit by a major flood on August 26, had increased again on Friday, with sediment-laden water flowing downstream.
The development has raised the possibility of another flood in the area, according to the authority.
NDRRMA has urged rescue and relief workers operating along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, as well as anyone in potentially vulnerable areas, to exercise extreme caution.
It has also asked people to move to safer locations immediately if signs of danger emerge.
In a notice issued on Friday, NDRRMA spokesperson and Undersecretary Shanti Mahat urged everyone to take necessary precautions in view of the potential risk.
The authority also urged people to take any changes in the river’s flow seriously and avoid staying unnecessarily in areas considered at risk.
