A man who had been running a business in Biratnagar was found dead near the Keshaliya River.
Lalji Prasad Gupta, 65, was found dead near a bridge over the river connecting Biratnagar Metropolitan City-6 in Morang and Barju Rural Municipality in Sunsari.
Gupta had been operating Lal Battery Shop on Mahabir Road in Biratnagar-6 for the past 30 years. He was reportedly an Indian national.
Residents alerted police on Sunday morning after spotting a body wrapped in a sack on the riverbank in Bhimpur, Barju Rural Municipality-2, Sunsari.
According to Chandra Khadka, spokesperson for the Sunsari District Police Office and DSP, Gupta had been running a battery repair shop in Biratnagar-6.
Khadka said the circumstances suggested that Gupta might have been murdered and his body dumped at the site.
“The body was found wrapped in a sack, making the incident suspicious,” DSP Khadka said. “We are conducting a detailed investigation from various angles.”
Police said a technical team, accompanied by a trained sniffer dog, had been deployed at the scene to collect evidence.
