Kathmandu, August 27
A Nepal Army team has reached the site by helicopter to rescue employees stranded at the Upper Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project, which was damaged by flooding in the Bhotekoshi River.
Although two landing attempts on Wednesday failed due to adverse weather conditions, the helicopter successfully landed at the project site on Thursday.
The Army team has begun an on-site assessment of the situation and the damage caused by the floods.
Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has directed authorities to expedite efforts to rescue employees stranded in the affected area and restore electricity services as soon as possible by taking all necessary measures.
Following the minister’s directive, a high-level team led by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha has been deployed to the field. The team includes Deputy Executive Director Kirankumar Shrestha, Distribution and Customer Service Directorate chief and spokesperson Rajan Dhakal, and Chirantan Bikram Rana, chief executive officer of NEA Engineering Company, among other officials.
According to the NEA, the team is conducting an on-site assessment of the project, coordinating rescue efforts and carrying out the necessary technical evaluation for the restoration of the electricity infrastructure.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to restore electricity supply through alternative means in flood-affected areas of Nuwakot where power infrastructure has been damaged.
The NEA has already restored electricity services in Kharanitar, Samundratar, Chaugada, Likhu and Panchakanya through an alternative line connected from the Sindhupalchok side.
In other affected areas of Nuwakot, authorities have identified the possibility of supplying electricity by charging the 66 kV lines at 11 kV. Preparations are therefore underway to charge the Chapali-Devighat 66 kV and Balaju-Trishuli 66 kV lines at 11 kV.
