Kathmandu, August 28
The Nepali Army has rescued 350 people who were trapped inside a tunnel of the Upper Trishuli Hydropower Project in Rasuwa following the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood.
The reports that hundreds of people were trapped inside the tunnel had sparked widespread concern as rescue teams faced difficult conditions in the flood-hit area.
The Prime Minister’s Secretariat said the Army successfully carried out the challenging rescue operation and brought 350 people to safety.
However, more than 100 people are still believed to be trapped inside the Upper Trishuli tunnel, according to the Nepali Army. Rescue efforts to reach them are continuing.
The Army said it rescued a total of 883 local residents and workers from various flood-affected areas of Rasuwa on Thursday alone.
The Bhotekoshi flood has caused widespread destruction in Rasuwa, damaging infrastructure and leaving people stranded in several locations. Rescue teams have been using helicopters and other resources to reach those cut off by the disaster.
