The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has rejected allegations that China failed to provide an early warning about the devastating floods and landslides in the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung area along the Nepal-China border, calling the claims misleading and untrue.
In a clarification issued publicly, the Chinese Embassy labelled two major allegations made in Nepal as “fake news” and dismissed them as false.
According to the embassy, two allegations—that the lack of a warning from China resulted in significant loss of life in Nepal, and that Nepal suffered major damage after a geological disaster dam on the Chinese side collapsed—are untrue.
What does the Chinese side claim?
Rejecting the allegations, the Chinese side said the actual sequence of events was different.
According to the embassy’s clarification, a landslide triggered by an earthquake or an earthquake-like tremor occurred on the Nepali side on the morning of August 26, 2026.
The resulting massive landslide caused significant loss of life and left people missing on both the Nepali and Chinese sides of the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border area, the embassy said.
China urged both sides to focus on rescue and relief efforts rather than blaming each other during the sensitive situation.
“Blame solves nothing; cooperation saves lives,” the embassy said.
