Kathmandu, August 26
The devastating flood that swept through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river system has damaged at least 19 bridges and 40 kilometres of roads, according to the Department of Roads.
Department of Roads Deputy Director General and spokesperson Shubharaj Neupane said the damage assessment was still preliminary and that several bridges along the Trishuli River had been affected by the flood.
At least 40 kilometres of roads have also been damaged or washed away, disrupting road connectivity across the affected areas.
Neupane said the department has deployed heavy equipment and machinery to the affected areas and has begun work to restore damaged roads and bridges.
The flood, which entered Nepal from the Tibetan side through the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa, has caused widespread damage downstream, including in Nuwakot and Dhading. Rescue and relief operations are continuing across the affected areas.
