Miss Menuka show extended by one week

Miss Menuka

Kathmandu, August 23

The run of the play Miss Menuka: Ek Samvedansheel Yaunakarmi, currently staged at Shilpee Theatre, has been extended. With the one-week extension, the play will now run through September 29.

An adaptation of the French play “La Putain Respectueuse,” the play has been running regularly since July 29. The original work was written by Jean-Paul Sartre. The Nepali adaptation was done by Kalpana Ghimire Nurissa, and it is directed by Pabitra Khadka.

In the play, Menuka, a sex worker, becomes a witness to an incident while travelling on a bus. To protect the real culprit, powerful people try to falsely accuse an innocent man of attempting to rape her. Police also side with them and pressure her to give a false statement. Later, the innocent man comes to Menuka seeking her help to save his life; what happens next forms the central story of the play.

The cast includes Sarita Giri, Ghimire Yubaraj, Rupesh Mandal, Prabhakar Dev Sharma, Dhanraj Sunar, and Govinda Oli.
