The Jai Nepal Party, led by Dhawal Shumsher Rana, has decided to launch a nationwide signature campaign to build public support for a constitutional monarchy and a Hindu state.

The decision was taken at the party’s first central working committee meeting held in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The party said the campaign would be conducted in phases to generate public opinion in favour of a constitutional monarchy and Hindu state and create positive pressure on relevant authorities, amid the government’s ongoing process of collecting suggestions for constitutional amendment.

The meeting also decided to organise pressure programmes in Bhadra to push the government and other concerned stakeholders to prohibit cow slaughter and the consumption of beef.

According to party chair Rana, the meeting also formed a dialogue committee to bring together parties, organisations, groups, campaigns and individuals that share the Jai Nepal Party’s political views.

The newly formed Jai Nepal Party had not made public the names of its central members when it registered with the Election Commission on August 14.

The party had submitted the names of 79 central members to the Election Commission. Except for Rana, who was designated chairperson, all were listed as central members.

At Thursday’s central committee meeting, minutes were prepared with the names of all 79 central members, although some members have not signed the document.
