Nepal’s stock exchange (NEPSE) fell 2.25 points on Monday, the first trading day of the week. The NEPSE index had declined by 7.37 points on Friday.
After Monday’s trading, the NEPSE index stood at 2,641 points. The prices of 72 companies increased, while 201 declined and seven remained unchanged.
Trading turnover increased to Rs 5.52 billion from Rs 4.27 billion on the previous trading day. Monday’s turnover was the highest since July 27.
The finance sector recorded the biggest decline, falling 1.14%, while the manufacturing and processing sector gained the most, rising 1.30%.
The banking sector fell 0.50%, development banks 0.29%, hotels and tourism 0.56%, investment 0.59%, life insurance 0.36%, microfinance 0.66% and non-life insurance 0.61%.
Hydropower rose 0.45%, the other sector 0.47% and trading 0.14%.
The hydropower sector recorded the highest turnover among sectoral groups at Rs 2.23 billion. Commercial banks recorded transactions worth Rs 650 million, while manufacturing and processing companies recorded Rs 160 million in turnover.
Recently listed companies Sarbottam Paints and Mount Everest Power saw their share prices rise by 15%. Reliance Spinning Mills gained 11.17%, Sagarmatha Hydropower Company 11.06% and Development Hydropower 8.22%.
First Microfinance fell 6.63%, Mahila Laghubitta 6.57%, Khanikhola Hydropower 6.33% and Central Finance 4.54%.
In terms of turnover, Reliance Spinning Mills, Solu Hydropower, Ridi Power, Khanikhola Hydropower and Development Hydropower were the most actively traded companies.
