Dry landslide damages Gharkhola hydropower project; one goes missing

A person has gone missing, and another one got injured when a dry landslide occurred at Pokharebagar of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6 in Myagdi. The landslide occurred this morning and also damaged the powerhouse of Gharkhola Hydropower Project.

A worker at the powerhouse, Dipak Baruwal, 55, went missing in the landslide while another, Surendra BK, 31, was injured, according to the District Police Office. Baruwal is from Annapurna-6 and BK from Gauriganga Municipality-5. The search for the missing one is continuous with the joint effort of police personnel, Nepali Army staff, the Armed Police Force, people’s representatives and locals.

The injured one has been sent to Province Hospital, Beni after rescue and general treatment, according to Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina. Equipment in the hydropower with a capacity of 14 MW received damage, resulting in disruption of power production.
