Two people, including an Armed Police Force (APF) personnel who had been missing since Friday in Dadeldhura, were found dead on Monday morning.
The deceased have been identified as APF jawan Omprakash Pun Magar, stationed at the Border Outpost (BOP) Parigaun, and resident Tirtha Bahadur Thapa Magar of Parshuram Municipality-5.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Barun Bahadur Singh, both bodies were recovered from the Mahakali River.
The body of Tirtha Bahadur Thapa Magar was found at Kalpatte area of the river in Parshuram Municipality-5, while the body of APF personnel Pun Magar was discovered along the Indian side of the Mahakali River bank in Brahmadev area of Kanchanpur.
DSP Singh said Thapa Magar’s body has been kept at Jog Buddha Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the body of APF officer Pun Magar, found on the Indian side of the river, was taken by Indian authorities after completing initial procedures at the site, according to police.
Indian authorities are expected to complete legal formalities before handing over the body to the victim’s family.
Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
