Opposition parties have united over remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) at Sunday’s session of the House of Representatives regarding Nepal’s border. A meeting of opposition parties held today concluded that the Prime Minister must retract his statement, in which he suggested that Nepal had also encroached on India’s border, by apologising for it.
Yubaraj Dulal, chairman of CPN (NCP), told Onlinekhabar, “The opposition parties’ meeting has concluded that parliament will not be allowed to proceed until the Prime Minister apologises.”
He added that the meeting also concluded that the Prime Minister’s remarks on border encroachment amounted to an act of national betrayal.
The opposition parties have demanded that the statement be removed from the parliamentary record, and that the Prime Minister apologise on the floor of the House to the people of the country. He said the conclusion was that the House would not be allowed to function until these demands are met.
“The conclusion was that what the Prime Minister said in parliament yesterday regarding border encroachment is an act of national betrayal,” he said. “The opposition parties have today decided to obstruct parliament, demanding that the statement be removed from the parliamentary record and that the Prime Minister apologise to the people of the country from the floor of the House itself.”
