The government has announced a total budget of Rs 2.124 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle stated that the budget has been set at this scale while presenting the annual financial plan. He informed that Rs 431 billion has been allocated for capital expenditure and Rs 422 billion for financial management.
Similarly, revenue has been projected at Rs 1.404 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year.
The government has estimated Rs 61.74 billion in grants and Rs 247 billion in foreign loans. Domestic borrowing has been set at Rs 410 billion, while recurrent expenditure is estimated at Rs 1.27 trillion.
The government has allocated Rs 218.30 billion for the education sector in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27. The allocation is lower than the amount set aside for physical and urban infrastructure development, which has received Rs 268 billion in the new budget.
Similarly, the government has earmarked Rs 4.03 billion for the sports sector. Presenting the annual budget at the Federal Parliament, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said the allocation would be used for the development and promotion of sports activities across the country.
The government has also allocated Rs 12.31 billion for the forest, environment and climate sector in the upcoming fiscal year.
Likewise, Rs 15 billion has been allocated for the Health Insurance Board, an increase from the Rs 10 billion allocated by the previous government. According to the Board’s statistics, annual expenditure exceeds Rs 26 billion. Finance Minister Wagle said the health insurance programme would undergo broad restructuring to improve its effectiveness and sustainability.
In the social security sector, the government has allocated Rs 120 billion. The Finance Minister said the government aims to declare Nepal free of street children through coordinated efforts among all three tiers of government.
The budget also includes plans to control social distortions and reform child correction homes across the country.
