Kathmandu, April 29
The Department of Transportation Management has once again raised public transport fares following an increase in fuel prices. The fare hike applies to public vehicles operating on inter-provincial routes and takes effect today, Wednesday.
Fares have been increased by 5 per cent across three categories: inter-provincial passenger vehicles, freight vehicles operating on hill routes, and freight vehicles operating on Terai routes.
Fares had previously been raised on April 8 as well. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport had given its approval for the latest hike on April 25, and the department has implemented the increase accordingly.
The current price of diesel stands at Rs 235.83 per litre. Electric vehicles, however, have not been permitted to raise their fares. The department has warned that any electric vehicle operator found charging higher fares will face action.
