Onlinekhabar unveils ‘50 Influential Women 2082’ list (Photos)

Onlinekhabar.com has unveiled its list of ‘50 Influential Women 2082’ of Nepal. Traditionally released on the eve of International Women’s Day (March 8) each year, the list was published later this time due to the recent general elections held on Falgun 21.

This is the third edition of Onlinekhabar’s ‘50 Influential Women’ list.

At a special ceremony held Monday evening at The Plaza in Lalitpur, Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla unveiled the list and presented awards to the selected women. She expressed her happiness over Onlinekhabar’s initiative to honour women and suggested continuing the campaign.

The list includes 50 representative, hardworking, and accomplished women from diverse sectors such as Nepali politics, society, arts and literature, culture, youth and sports, science and knowledge, entrepreneurship, and the diaspora.

Before finalising the list, Onlinekhabar had issued a public call for nominations. More than 700 names were received through the open call, contributions from its central newsroom in Kathmandu, correspondents across all seven provinces, as well as experts and sources from various fields. A selection committee led by former justice Meera Khadka shortlisted 50 women from the nominations.

Announcement to form alumni network

According to Onlinekhabar Pvt Ltd Chairperson Dharmaraj Bhusal, the primary objective of selecting the ‘50 Influential Women’ is to recognise and honour the contributions of women active in various sectors and to document their leadership as a national achievement.

Chairperson Bhusal also announced plans to form an alumni network comprising those featured on the influential list.

He stated that each of the 50 influential women represents a story akin to a university in itself and that history will always remember their contributions.

He noted that society has long attempted to portray women only as “victims,” “voiceless,” or “supporters,” but such narratives are now being dismantled. “For a long time, our society tried to portray women merely as victims, voiceless, or supporters. But the 50 faces present here today have dismantled that narrative from its roots,” he said. “You have carved your own paths by breaking through the narrow confines of tradition, the mountains of scarcity, and policy gaps of the state.”

Editor-in-Chief of Onlinekhabar, Basanta Basnet, said the list is proof that these women are embodiments of dedication and struggle and true creators of success. He added, “Having been part of the jury, I can say that out of the 700 nominations, at least 400 deserved recognition in the true sense. I would like to thank and congratulate them all. We will strive to include as many as possible in the coming years. Please continue your journey of success.”

He further remarked, “One interesting experience this year is that many among those present here had applied online for the ‘50 Influential Women’ list. Those applications are still with us. However, congratulations to you all, as the nation itself has honoured you as our elected representatives.”

Onlinekhabar also releases an annual list of ‘40 Under 40’ youth from various sectors to mark International Youth Day.
