Voting begins across Nepal for House of Representatives Elections

Kathmandu, March 5

Voting has begun for the House of Representatives Elections 2026. The Election Commission Nepal informed that voting started across the country at 7:00 am today.

Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said, “Voting has just started nationwide from 7:00 am, and reports have already come in that polling has begun smoothly everywhere.”

Voters will be able to cast their ballots until 5:00 pm today. According to the Election Commission, voters can vote by presenting documents such as a voter ID card, citizenship certificate, national identity card, driving license, passport, or land ownership certificate (Lalpurja).

There will be separate queues for male and female voters at polling centres. Special arrangements have been made so that persons with disabilities, the physically weak, senior citizens, patients, postpartum women, and pregnant women will not have to wait in line.

For the election, 23,112 polling centres have been set up at 10,967 polling locations across the country.

Among them, 3,680 polling centres have been classified as highly sensitive, 4,442 as sensitive, and 2,845 as normal polling centers.

A total of 143 temporary polling stations have also been designated.

For election security, 79,727 personnel from the Nepali Army, 75,797 from Nepal Police, 34,567 from the Armed Police Force, 1,921 from the National Investigation Department, and 149,090 temporary election police have been deployed.

In total, around 215,000 government employees have been mobilised for the election.
