Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier: Nepal lose to Thailand

Kathmandu, January 18

Nepal suffered a defeat against Thailand in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, which began in Kathmandu on Sunday.

In the match held at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal lost to Thailand by eight wickets. Chasing a target of 123 runs, Thailand reached the total in 16.5 overs, losing two wickets. Thailand sealed the win with a boundary when two runs were required.

For Thailand, Nattakan Chantham remained unbeaten on 57 runs. Nanpat Koncharoenkai scored 32, while Apisara Suwanthonnathi contributed 28 runs. Both of Nepal’s wickets were taken by Sita Rana Magar.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being put in to bat first, Nepal were bowled out for 122 runs in 20 overs.

Bindu Rawal top-scored for Nepal with 44 runs. Samjhana Khadka scored 26 runs off 11 balls, while Rubina Chhetri made 17 runs off 10 balls, hitting two sixes and one four.

For Thailand, Thipatcha Putthawong claimed four wickets for 15 runs in four overs. Onicha Kamchomphu took two wickets, while Sunida Chatarangratana, Suliporn Laomi and Chanida Suthirang each took one wicket.

Nepal will now face the Netherlands in their second match on Thursday.
