Kathmandu, October 30

Most parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, have witnessed rainfall. The unseasonal heavy rain and early snowfall this Kartik have brought mixed effects delight to some farmers but concerns of floods and landslides elsewhere.

According to the Meteorological Department, the ongoing rain is due to the combined influence of westerly winds and Cyclone “Montha.” Senior meteorologist Barun Paudel said the impact of the cyclone is expected to intensify tonight, leading to heavier rainfall.

“The rain is occurring as forecasted. It will increase tonight,” he said, predicting that rainfall will be more intense in the eastern regions from Koshi to the eastern part of Lumbini Province.

The weather is expected to remain rainy throughout tomorrow and gradually improve from Saturday morning. “The weather in Kathmandu will start clearing from Saturday morning as clouds move eastward,” Paudel added.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology stated that the weather system entering from the Madhesh Province is likely to cause moderate to heavy rainfall, with snowfall in high hill and mountain regions.

Moderate rain is expected in many parts of Koshi Province, while some areas in the hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces may experience rain and snowfall. Light rain is likely in parts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, with moderate snowfall in high-altitude areas nationwide.

The department has urged the public to avoid trekking and to stay alert to possible floods and landslides.
