Bipin Joshi’s funeral performed in Mahakali river

Kathmandu, October 21

The funeral of Bipin Joshi, who was killed in Israel, was held today on the bank of the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur. His final rites were performed at Bhujel Ghat on the Mahakali River, where the Armed Police Force paid tribute with a ceremonial salute.

Bipin Joshi’s body had been brought to Kathmandu from Israel on Monday afternoon. From Kathmandu, the Nepal Army’s Sky Truck transported his body to Dhangadhi, and from there, it was taken to his home in Bhimdatta Municipality–3, Bhasi, Kanchanpur. Officials from the Israeli Embassy in Nepal reached his home to hand over the body to his family.

As the body arrived home late at night, the funeral procession took place Tuesday morning, followed by the cremation on the bank of the Mahakali River.

Family members, relatives, local representatives, government employees, security personnel, and municipal police attended the funeral.

Two years ago, Bipin Joshi had gone to Israel for studies, where he was killed after being captured by Hamas militants. He had traveled to Israel under the “Learn and Earn” program of Far Western University and was caught in the Hamas attack just a month after his arrival. Hamas militants had entered Israel from the Gaza Strip and launched an assault on October 7, 2023.

The attack claimed the lives of ten students from Far Western University, while Bipin was taken hostage. His whereabouts remained unknown for two years.

However, following a recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Israeli Army informed the Nepali Embassy in Israel on October 14 that Bipin had been killed back in 2023.

According to Nepal’s official news agency, the National News Agency, the forensic report sent from Israel confirmed that Joshi died from a gunshot wound to the head.
