During the second day of the Gen Z protests, as attacks on top leaders began, security forces started moving them to safe locations by helicopter.

According to a high-level security source who spoke to Onlinekhabar, all four security agencies have been mobilized. Military and private helicopters have repeatedly landed in Baluwatar and other locations. Leaders elsewhere have also been relocated to secure places, a senior official said.

“Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s house has been set on fire, and there is also tension around Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s residence,” the official said. “In such a situation, it is our duty to ensure their security.”

Helicopters have also repeatedly landed at the ministers’ quarters in Bhaisepati. Some leaders have been airlifted, according to security sources, though their destinations have not been disclosed. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an all-party meeting for 6 p.m., but the situation had already slipped out of control by then.

From Oli’s home district, Jhapa, to Energy Minister Dipak Khadka’s house in Sankhuwasabha, vandalism has also taken place. “In such circumstances, it is our responsibility to provide security for everyone, which is why we have been mobilized,” the official added.

On Monday’s Gen Z protest, police crackdowns killed 19 youths dead and more than 200 were injured.
