An American citizen attempting to scale Mt Makalu in Sankhuwasabha district has died during the expedition. The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Alexander Pancoe, according to the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha.

Police Inspector Abhisekh Shrestha at the DPO, Sankhuwasabha, shared that the American climber died on Sunday night and the reason behind his demise could not be ascertained yet. It has been learnt that Pancoe suddenly passed away after returning to Camp II from Camp III of the fifth highest mountain in the world.

All foreign climbers and their support staffs are safe, according to Inspector Shrestha.
