As the government is preparing to legalise marijuana in terms of its production, trade and consumption for medicinal use, Nepal Law Commission has also launched a study about legal amendments needed to effect the change.

Law and Justice Minister Govinda Bandi says the government will make a decision about whether to legalise marijuana after studying the report by the commission.

Responding to lawmakers’ queries during the House meeting today, Bandi said, “We have asked the commission to check provisions in other countries and how they can be replicated in Nepal.”

Earlier, it was also reported that the Ministry of Home Affairs is preparing a standard operating procedure in this regard.
