Kathmandu, June 22
After the government relaxed lockdown measures some 10 days ago, some transport entrepreneurs have begun ferrying passengers charging high costs.
The Metropolitan Police Circle in Thankot has recently taken three buses coming to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj and Jhapa under control.
DSP Ghana Shyam Shrestha of the circle says action has been initiated against three drivers on the charge of fleecing the passengers. Further, it has been found that the people travelling were not tested for coronavirus. The vehicles had not obtained any permits from the concerned authorities.
“Hence, the drivers will be booked as per the Infectious Disease Act, 1964,” Shrestha says. Those arrested include Rahul Dabagar and Rudra Bahadur Khatri from Banke and Rakesh Shakya from Sunsari.
The vehicles had carried 44 passengers in total. They have been quarantined to Radhashwami Statsanga Holding Centre, according to Shrestha.
