Parliament informed of Mahara’s acquittal

After the Kathmandu District Court acquitted him of an attempt to rape charge, former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been released from his judicial custody at Dillibajaar Prison, on Monday, February 17, 2020.

Kathmandu, February 18

The Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday informed the Federal Parliament Secretariat that former speaker and House of Representatives member Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been acquitted of an attempt to rape charge.

The court had given him the clean chit on Monday.

Following the notification, Mahara will be allowed to participate in the House meetings and perform other duties as a lawmaker. Likewise, he will be provided with all the benefits that he gets as a lawmaker.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota read out the letter during the House meeting today. Mahara, however, was not present at the meeting.

Sources say the leader had decided not to go to the meeting till the House formally gets informed about the acquittal. It means he is likely to attend the next meeting.
