House panel directs govt to issue new map

The state affairs and good governance committee on Monday directed the government to issue a new map of Nepal by incorporating land encroached by India including Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiya Dhura. The meeting was summoned to discuss the new political map unveiled by India by incorporating Nepali territories. Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal who was also present at the meeting suggested that it would be unwise to immediately internationalise the border encroachment issue.

Will only resign if I am made speaker: Tumbahamphe

Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahamphehas said that she will only resign from her post if she’s made the speaker of the parliament. The post of speaker has been vacant since Krishna Bahadur Mahara resigned from his post after being accused of sexual misconduct. According to the constitution, the post of both speaker and deputy speaker needs to be empty for the government to appoint a new one. As the ruling party doesn’t want to give the responsibility of the speaker to the opposition, it wants Tumbahampheto to resign to appoint a new speaker. But Tumbahamphehas told the senior leaders that she will only resign if promised to be made the speaker.

Pradeep Gyawali

Won’t let India take Nepali land: Minister Gyawali

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali has said that the government will not let India take Nepali land. Speaking at the international relations committee on Monday, Gyawalai said that Nepal would reclaim its land. Referring to Kalapani and Lipulekh, Gyawali said that efforts were underway to reclaim the land. He added that as per the Sughauli Treaty, the land belonged to Nepal and said that high-level political and diplomatic efforts were underway.

Japan interested to take more Nepali workers

Japan has shown interest to take Nepali workers to work on agricultural, forest and food sector. Japan’s deputy director-general of Ministry of Agriculture and Forest, Takami Nakada has told Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista that after taking Nepalis for nursing, Japan was also interested to take Nepal in the agriculture, forest, and food sectors. An agreement between the two countries is expected to be signed soon.

Nepal to take on Kuwait in Bhutan

Nepal’s match against Kuwait in FIFA World Cup round 2 Asian qualifiers will take place in Bhutan, AFC confirmed. The match will take place at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu on November 19. ANFA confirmed that AFC gave the green light to host the qualifier in Bhutan. The match, which was due to take place in Dashrath stadium, had to be shifted after an AFC team deemed the stadium unfit to host the match. The stadium which was damaged during the 2015 earthquake is being renovated by the National Sports Council for the South Asian Games. Kuwait, who were reluctant to play in Thimpu citing long travel, cold weather, and high altitude, wanted to play the game in one of Gulf nations. However, the AFC has sent a letter to ANFA and Bhutan FA, confirming the venue.

Army major faces action

Major Ram Chandra Tiwari is facing disciplinary action from the Nepal army. He has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Military Court. Even though Tiwari was fired, he, however, will be eligible for civil service in the future. Tiwari, who left for Japan on a Nepal Army scholarship had returned to Nepal and not joined the army. He has been charged according to the Military Act 2063 for deserting the army after using army privileges.
