(updated) Five dead, dozen missing as bus plunges into Trishuli in Dhading

Kathmandu, August 9

Five people have died and a dozen others are missing after a bus ferrying around 45 people plunged into the Trishuli in Benighat, Dhading, on Friday morning, police said.

The bus (Na 6 Kha 7469), which was en route to Kathmandu from Malangawa, Sarlahi, fell off the road and into the river at Salanghat, Rorang Municipality in Benighat, Dhading at 3.30 hrs on Monday. Authorities at the scene say three bodies have been recovered so far; 16 people have been rescued alive.

According to District Police Office Dhading, the deceased are Raj Narayan Rauniyar, his wife Sobha Rauniyar and nephew Saurav Rauniyar. The family hails from Brahmapuri, Sarlahi. The identity of two others has not been established yet.

Authorities said that of the 45 people on the bus, eight people from India were also onboard.

Those rescued by police are: Bhupendra Kumar Yadav, Anish Raya, Sunita Rokaya, Sikhar Kumar Mahato, Rakesh Baitha, Sanjay Mahato, Jahendra Thakur, Rohit Kumar Mandal, Shamim Raja Ansari, Dhirendra Thakur, driver Laxman Jamakattel, Bijay Raya Yadav, Dinesh Thakur, Bhogendra Chaudhary and Rahul, whose last name has not been mentioned.

Search for the missing passengers is on, said police.
