Development projects with a budget less than Rs 10 million will not be allowed to use excavators, a new government order says.

The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, through the Ministry of General Administration, has issued a notification for local governments to bar the use of heavy equipment in projects that have a budget less than Rs 10 million.

According to the new notification, such projects will have to be implemented using human labour. The notification says that labourers required for development projects should be sought from the Human Resource Service Centre established in each local unit.

The government says the move will help local unemployed people get work.
