Kathmandu, July 31
Lawmakers from the main opposition party the Nepali Congress and the Rastriya Janata Party obstructed proceedings of the House of Representatives on Wednesday demanding an investigation into the killing of two people in Saralahi recently.
Two people, one of them a member of the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN, were recently killed in police firing in Sarlahi. While the Sarlahi district in-charge of CPN Kumar Poudel was shot dead on June 20, Saroj Narayan Mahato, a Sarlahi resident, was killed in police firing on June 30.
Lawmakers from the two parties stood up and obstructed proceedings immediately after the meeting started. They did not give up the protest even as Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara told them that he has informed the government about the protests.
Speaker Mahara postponed the meeting until Thursday after the lawmakers said they will not allow proceedings to go ahead.
