Kathmandu, July 4
Nepali Congress lawmaker Jitendra Dev has said that the budget would only be effective if the Finance Ministry worked with other ministries while drafting.
“The government needs to take this seriously. Currently, the Finance Ministry has a monopoly over the budget. But I feel that if they hold talks with other ministries while drafting the budget, it will be more effective,” said Dev speaking at the National Assembly on Thursday.
He added that the budget would only be effective if the Finance Ministry took suggestions from the provincial governments before drafting. He suggested the government initiate a policy shift.
“If we don’t do this the country will go nowhere. We from the opposition will oppose it while those from the ruling party will defend it,” he added.
Dev further added that the budget was being assigned as per suggestions of the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Finance Minister. “How will the country prosper when the budget isn’t used in a proper manner?” questioned Dev. He added that the country was heading in a backward direction due to such conduct.
