Gandaki govt to provide sanitary pads to girls attending SEE

Parbat, March 13

The Ministry of Social Development of Gandaki province will provide sanitary pads to girls attending Secondary Education Examination (SEE) scheduled to take place from March 24.

The ministry’s move was in place keeping in mind the problems the menstruating girls would face while attending examinations, says officer at the ministry, Guma Wagle.

The ministry has handed over a cheque worth Rs 13,000 to the District Education Development and Coordination Unit (DEDCU), Parbat to purchase sanitary pads for the students. Receiving the cheque, Chief of the DEDCU Manohar B. Poudel lauded the ministry’s move.

Likewise, the ministry has released approximately Rs 500,000 to the nine districts of the province except Manang and Mustang to purchase sanitary pads for the girls taking the examination.

The ministry could not provide budget to Manang and Mustang for this purpose as the districts have a small number of girls attending the test, says Devi Sharma, Women Development Officer at the ministry.
