NA chair sees need of increasing public awareness on constitutional rights

National Assembly Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina

Kathmandu, December 28

National Assembly (NA) chair Ganesh Timilsina has insisted that people need to be aware of the provisions in the constitution for it to be fully implemented.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Samabesi Foundation on Friday, he said the constitution achieved through a long struggle of people had granted sufficient rights to the people of all communities including the Dalits. However, added that the government needed to make people aware of it.

He admitted that the parliament bypassed in-depth and sufficient discussions on the bills relating to fundamental rights due to the compulsion of formulating laws in a limited timeframe and pledged to revise such acts as per the need of time.

Dalit lawmakers and rights activities present on the occasion called for incorporating additional provisions in the rights of Dalits and marginalised communities.
