Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, has obtained the vote of confidence at the meeting of Provincial Assembly in Birendranagar of Surkhet today.
Article 168(4) of the constitution requires the Chief Minister to obtain the vote of confidence from the Assembly within 30 days from the date of appointment if his/her party does not command a majority independently. Accordingly, Shahi had made an attempt to prove that he commands the majority.
There are total 40 members in the Assembly; and 19 of the CPN-UML and 13 of the CPN-Maoist Centre voted in Shahi’s favour.
