Civic polls: Sajha Party to field candidates as independents

Kathmandu, March 21

The Rabindra Mishra-led Sajha party will field candidates in the upcoming elections, but they will run as independents.

Mishra, the former editor of BBC Nepali Service, recently formed the party, but it has not been formally launched yet. The party is also not registered with the Election Commission to formally take part in the May 14 elections.

However, the party has decided to field independent candidates across the country, encouraged by a wave of support from people from all walks of life.

In a statement on Tuesday, the party said, Sajha party appeals to members of its units to file candidacy for positions in the civic bodies. The party has made it clear that it will not provide any financial assistance to any candidate it endorses.
