Kathmandu, April 10

The United States has deported 85 Muslims from Nepal, India and Bangladesh, who had applied for asylum.

These people had applied seeking permission to live as refugees in the US, citing violence and insecurity at home.

Some of these people had staged hunger strike demanding refugee status, while some others had been in judicial custody for long. It’s unclear how many of them were Nepalis.

They had applied for refugee status at the immigration court. But their applications were rejected, an oficial with Immigration Customs and Enforcement Agency informed.

The US deported them on April 3.
