Tired of allopathy? How about giving naturopathy a try

Nawalparasi, January 17

A naturopathy clinic based in Rajahar, Nawalparasi, is witnessing a surge in the number of patients every year.

Hem Raj Koirala, chair of the clinic, attributes this surge to people’s increasing attraction towards naturopathy.

In the last fiscal, 1,159 people — 521 women and 588 men — had received treatment at the clinic. That’s a surge of 370 patients compared to the preceding fiscal.

As of Push-end, 2016, 280 women and 265 men have received treatment at the facility, according to the clinic. The number of patients is higher in the summer than in the winter.

Established five years ago, the 82-bed facility with 30 cabins has three resident therapists, among the 45 people, whom the clinic has employed. For in-patient services, a patient has to foot Rs 700 daily.

“This clinic is a servicing centre for the human body,” says manager at the clinic, Hari Sapkota. Patients, who want to get rid of diseases and live a long life, should visit this clinic, he say.

Sapkota feels the government has not done enough in the field of Yog and naturopathy. Of late, the government has begun understanding the importance of Yog and naturopathy, he says, adding that it needs to do more in the field.

Binod Poudel, therapist, says the state’s burden will lessen drastically even if it channels a portion of funds invested in allopathic treatment to naturopathy clinics. “There’s no dearth of herbs in this country. By operating herbs processing industries in Nepal, we can check the outflow of money for the purchase of drugs.”

The clinic provides treatment, except for those who have fractures and those who have to undergo surgeries. Usually, patients tired of allopathic treatment come here as a last resort.

Of late, patients have started visiting this clinic instead of going elsewhere, says Poudel. We cut down intake of allopathic medicines and go for drugs-free treatment, he says. “We provide treatment through acupressure, acupuncture, massage and panchatatwa — the use of five elements, namely the Sun, the Earth, Ether, Air and Fire.”
