Kanchanpur, September 25
After the Weather Forecasting Division predicted heavy rainfall in various parts of the country from September 25 to 27, Kanchanpur has also stepped up precautions in light of the potential risk.
Rain is currently falling in parts of the hill districts across Sudurpashchim, including Kanchanpur. Tek Rawat, information officer at the Kanchanpur District Police Office, said the water flow in the Mahakali River currently stands at only 34,000 cusecs.
According to Rawat, 9 families from Patrakhalla in Dodhara Chandani Municipality-3 have been moved to safer locations due to the risk of rising water in the Jogbuda River entering the settlement.
They have been relocated to the nearby ward office and Jamunaghadi School. With the help of the Armed Police Force and residents, family members, along with essential food supplies and livestock, are being moved to safety as a precaution.
Patrakhalla is a settlement at risk from the Jogbuda River, which has flooded the area in the past when water levels rose. Since further rain is forecast in the coming days, residents living along riverbanks and in low-lying areas have been urged to remain alert.
